Atlantic City, NJ: August 10, 1964. MFDP delegates challenge Mississippi Democrats at Democratic Convention, 1964. Hartman Turnbow, a farmer and civil rights leader from Holmes County. Turnbow once held off a band of night riders who came to burn down his farmhouse. When he reported the crime the next morning, he was arrested for arson.
